The Value of Continued Education + 5 Ways to Keep Growing
As an empire-builder, you're constantly learning new strategies to apply to your business, whether through marketing, branding, or creating a sought-after service. This is an ongoing journey of discovery and growth. There's no such thing as reaching the peak of knowledge because everything constantly evolves.
Education has been a staple throughout our lives. Though some people believe there's nothing more to learn once they're done with school, that couldn't be further from the truth. Graduating from high school or college doesn't mean your education has to come to an end. If anything, learning becomes more essential when you own a business.
As the world continues to change, you have to be ready to adapt. This means taking the initiative and learning about current marketing, sales, and technology practices. Education gives you the insight to lead your business successfully into the future.
Other professionals in your field can provide you with expertise to keep up with trends and ensure your business doesn’t fall behind. This keeps you on top of your game – exactly where you should be.
However, failure to adapt may result in your business losing traction, which could manifest itself in ineffective approaches that aren't attracting your ideal clients. You can't welcome abundance if you're stuck in the past.
It’s important to remember that change is inevitable.
The key is staying grounded in the present and being prepared for what's next. You can do this by absorbing the expertise of pros in your niche. In addition, following mentors and joining communities will allow you to navigate your business and sign new clients for years to come.
There's nothing more valuable than a fresh perspective, and the only way to get that is to expand your knowledge. So, are you ready to gain some wisdom and propel your business forward?
Here are five ways to keep growing as an entrepreneur:
Immerse Yourself in Books
Reading is a gateway to knowledge. There are many business-related books that can help you grow your empire. You can start by reading books on topics that interest you or shed light on your industry. I guarantee you'll find several hidden gems!
Personally, I'm a big fan of Donald Miller and his StoryBrand framework. In Marketing Made Simple, he shares a step-by-step guide for connecting with clients. His book allowed me to lay a strong foundation for my six-figure business, so I can't recommend it enough. If you're interested in strengthening your messaging, you can find his book here!
While business and self-help books are beneficial for professional growth, don't underestimate the power of other types of literature as well. For example, when you start reading fiction or poetry, you can build your vocabulary and see the world from different perspectives.
Stories allow us to step into other characters' shoes and empathize with them – a valuable asset for your business. Your perspective lays the groundwork, and the customer's point of view gives you a clear selling point. The more you understand who you're selling to, the better you can touch on their pain points and get them to pay attention.
Stories were created to teach us how to navigate the world. These lessons are our roadmaps, so it only makes sense to use them on our journey. Explore your local library and see what you can find.
If you're not big on reading, that's okay! Audiobooks are the next best thing. They're accessible on all forms of media, and you can play them in the background while working, driving, or getting your chores done. It sounds like a win-win to me!
Listen to Podcasts
Similar to books, there are plenty of insightful podcasts out there. Like audiobooks, they're perfect on road trips, while you’re exercising, and even while you’re working. You'd be surprised at how much you can absorb while you're multi-tasking.
Podcasts are another opportunity to gain expertise and apply new strategies to your business. So whether you're looking for one on healthy habits or smart investments, a quick search will help you find what you’re looking for.
Many solopreneurs are familiar with burnout and lack of motivation. Both topics are covered extensively in The Flourishing Entrepreneur Podcast if you're seeking an inspirational podcast that will help you vanquish your burnout monster and realign your energy.
I sit down with a wide range of guests who share their business experiences and tips for building a successful empire. I also offer a handful of guided meditation episodes if you’re hoping to take a moment to ground yourself. You'll feel calm and ready to build that empire of yours in no time!
You can find podcasts on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and even YouTube. So make it a goal to listen to a new episode this week.
Have you ever attended a conference? If the answer is no, I highly recommend doing so. Conferences are a great way to learn from industry experts and build your network. However, they do require an investment of your time and money, so see if it makes sense for you to go by asking yourself the following questions:
Do I have the money to pay for this conference?
Am I able to take time away from clients to attend?
How will this conference serve me and my business?
Weigh the pros and cons and determine if signing up is right for you. If the answer is yes, pack your bags and be prepared for the experience of a lifetime! This is your chance to expand what you know about entrepreneurship and take your business to the next level.
Conferences can rejuvenate your passion and reignite that inner spark of yours. Unfortunately, it’s easy to get caught up in the noise and forget why we started our business in the first place. So take this opportunity to press the reset button. Sometimes a little reminder is all you need to get back on track.
Find a Mentor/Coach
There's no better teacher than someone who has been in your shoes. Finding a coach to guide you is a game-changer. They can build upon your strengths and give you a clear map to navigate your business. Plus, there's a lot you can learn from someone else's real-world experiences.
A mentor does more than guide you – they cheer you on and push you to reach your goals. A coach can help you tap into your authenticity and bring that to the forefront of your business. If you feel like you're a little lost on your journey, that's okay.
That's what a mentor can help with. For instance, Aladdin didn't have it all figured out. He made plenty of mistakes trying to impress Princess Jasmine. It wasn't until the Genie helped him step into his true self that he finally won her over!
Similarly, a coach can give you the tools you need to tap into your energy, attracting clients and abundance to your business.
